The City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is co-sponsoring a Halloween event, a Reverse Halloween Parade, with a local cosplayer group, Just Us League, to celebrate the holiday safely.
The Reverse Halloween Parade will be held 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Broken Arrow Park, 2800 Louisiana St. The concept of the event was developed by members of the Just Us League, Sarah and Bradley Nottingham.
Participants will drive through Broken Arrow Park’s circle drive where the Just Us League cosplayers will be dressed as characters with their vehicles decorated. City of Lawrence police and fire personnel will also take part in the festivities. Participants can dress in costume but are asked to remain socially distanced and remain in their vehicles when interacting with the cosplayers to avoid close contact with the cosplayers, as well as keep the flow of traffic moving throughout the process. Cosplayers will be socially distanced between vehicles. Before exiting the park, participants will receive a goody bag.
To alleviate traffic congestion, participants are requested to follow the following traffic pattern to enter the park. Please access Louisiana Street from the south via 31st Street. Turn right into the park at its entrance. Once completing the circle and exiting the park’s circle drive participants are asked to turn right back onto Louisiana Street heading north toward 23rd Street.
The event is free and open to the public.
