Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department announces changes in the hours of operation for two recreation centers, beginning Monday, Nov. 1, to accommodate the City’s winter emergency shelter.
The winter emergency shelter offers a warm, safe environment for anyone when the daily overnight temperature posted on the Lawrence Journal-World website is at or below 35 degrees. On those nights, the shelter will open 8 p.m. through 7 a.m. the following morning.
Sheltering will begin at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., which is considered the primary site when the temperature drops at or below 35 degrees and will expand to include East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St., when the Community Building occupancy is met.
