Bus riders can now purchase bus fare on their phone

Buying a bus pass just got easier! Lawrence Transit has partnered with Token Transit to offer a way to purchase bus fare and board the bus using a mobile phone.

The process is easy. Download the Token Transit app, which has instructions for how to purchase a Lawrence Transit bus pass. You can select different types of bus passes such as full fare, reduced fare or T Lift monthly passes, 10-ride punch cards, day passes, single ride tickets, Night Line and K-12 semester passes.

Once the selection is made and the purchase confirmed, it will be saved in your stored passes. Bus riders then activate the pass and show the ticket displayed on their phone to the driver when boarding the bus. The driver will ask for proof of eligibility for reduced fare bus passes.

“Many riders have expressed that they would like to have other choices for purchasing bus fare,” said Adam Weigel, Transit and Parking Manager. “Using an app allows riders to buy passes whenever and wherever they want and not have to carry cash, paper tickets, or transfer slips.”

The app is available now in the Apple App Store or on Google Play, and will soon be integrated into trip planning apps Google Maps, Transit app, and Moovit. The mobile fare is the same price for riders as the current cash and paper pass options. Prepaid debit cards can be used for mobile fare payments for those without access to traditional credit cards.
