In alignment with the City’s Strategic Plan, and more specifically, to focus on the commitment to engaged and empowered teams, changes are being made to the City’s policies regarding holiday solid waste collection services. Changes to holiday collection services, which are outlined below, will begin with the 2021 Christmas holiday.
The new policy applies to the current City-observed holidays as well as any additional holidays observed by the City in the future. The current City-observed holidays include New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.
All residential customers are encouraged to sign up for service reminders to ensure they never miss a collection day. You can select what type of reminder to get, including push notifications to your mobile device, emails, phone calls or text messages. To do so, visit lawrenceks.org/swm/service-reminder or download the Lawrence Waste & Recycling app from the App Store for Apple Devices or the Google Play Store for Android Devices.
Changes for Residential Customers
The following changes will occur to residential solid waste collections on holiday weeks:
- No yard waste collections throughout the holiday week
- No bulk item pick-ups throughout the holiday week
- No roll-off services on the holiday or Saturday of the holiday week
- No cart swaps, deliveries, or maintenance on the holiday or Saturday of the holiday week
The following collection schedule will apply to residential customers for Christmas 2021 and the City-observed holidays in 2022:
- Week of Christmas 2021 (Dec. 19-25) & New Year’s Day (Dec. 26, 2021 – Jan. 1, 2022)
- Collections will occur on regularly scheduled days, Monday through Friday
- Week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 16-22), President’s Day (Feb. 20-26), Memorial Day (May 29 – June 4), Independence Day (July 3-9) & Labor Day (Sept. 4-10)
- Regular Monday customers will have collections occur on Tuesday
- Regular Tuesday customers will have collections occur on Wednesday
- Regular Wednesday customers will have collections occur on Thursday
- Regular Thursday customers will have collections occur on Friday
- Regular Friday customers will have collections occur on Saturday
- Week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 20-26)
- Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday customers will have collections occur on regularly scheduled days
- Regular Thursday customers will have collections occur on Friday
- Regular Friday customers will have collections occur on Saturday
- Week of Christmas 2022 (Dec. 25-31) and New Year’s Day 2023 (Jan. 1-7, 2023)
- Regular Monday customers will have collections occur on Tuesday
- Regular Tuesday customers will have collections occur on Wednesday
- Regular Wednesday customers will have collections occur on Thursday
- Regular Thursday customers will have collections occur on Friday
- Regular Friday customers will have collections occur on Saturday
Changes for Commercial Customers
On holiday weeks, the following changes will occur to commercial solid waste collections:
- No cardboard recycling service on the holiday except for downtown district
- No roll-off service on the holiday or Saturday of the holiday week
- No dumpster deliveries or maintenance on the holiday or Saturday of the holiday week
The following collection schedule will apply to commercial customers for Christmas 2021 and the City-observed holidays in 2022:
- Week of Christmas 2021 (Dec. 19-25) & New Year’s Day (Dec. 26, 2021 – Jan. 1, 2022)
- Collections will occur on Monday through Friday
- No collections will occur on Saturday, Dec. 25 or Saturday, Jan. 1
- Week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 16-22), President’s Day (Feb. 20-26), Memorial Day (May 29 – June 4), Independence Day (July 3-9) & Labor Day (Sept. 4-10)
- Collections will occur on regularly scheduled days, Monday through Saturday
