Changes in cemetery fees, Memorial Tree Program begin January 1

Kevin PowellCity, Parks & Recreation

The schedule of charges at The City of Lawrence cemeteries, operated by the Parks and Recreation Department, will see changes beginning Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022.

As part of the approved budget in 2019, a $50 increase of property lot rights was accepted for all cemetery schedule of charges annually through 2023, except for the property lot rates for infants. Those fees will be maintained at present levels for 2022. The schedule of charges includes lots and burials at Oak Hill Cemetery, Memorial Park Cemetery, Maple Grove Cemetery and the Natural Burial Area in Oak Hill Cemetery. The increase will be placed in a perpetual maintenance fund to provide upkeep at the cemeteries. All other cemetery fees are being maintained without increases.
