Construction on 27th Street between Naismith Park to begin May 2

Porter ArneillCity, Construction, Municipal Services and Operations

Beginning Monday, May 2, construction work to replace a sewer line underneath 27th Street at Naismith Park will necessitate street closure and detours for approximately two weeks.

Work will begin on Monday, May 2 to excavate and install a new sewer line underneath 27th Street into Naismith Park. This will require the closure of 27th Street at Naismith Park, roughly between Arkansas and Ousdahl Road. Signage will be in place and detours to Louisiana Street to the east and Iowa Street to the west will be implemented. No parking signs will be installed on Alabama Street during the closure to allow room for buses.

Due to the road closure on 27th at Naismith Valley Park, Route 7 will be on reroute from May 2 – 14. Stops 18 & 19, and 21 & 22 will be closed. Riders can still access stops on Iowa and 27th. For more information visit https://lawrencetransit.org/reroutes/.

Trash and recycling service will not be affected.

When complete, the project will allow for the removal of a sanitary sewer pump station from the City’s system. This will help eliminate odors associated with the pump station and reduce City operation and maintenance costs. The new sewer will also provide easier maintenance of the sewer through Naismith Park.

The project is expected to last through May 14. Specific timing on the closure and detours will be announced on the City’s Facebook and Twitter pages. All project timelines are subject to change due to weather and other project-related delays. For more information on construction projects and traffic alterations in Lawrence, visit lawrenceks.org/construction.
