City-load event to be compost only this month

Kevin PowellCity, Municipal Services and Operations, Solid Waste

The City-load event at the City of Lawrence Compost Facility will be compost only this Saturday, May 7. Due to an exceptionally high demand for the City’s woodchips, there is not sufficient quantity to sell them this month. Compost will be sold as usual.

City crews are actively working on processing woodchips, along with additional compost, for future sale dates. So far this year, more than 600 tons of woodchips have been hauled out of the facility, which is the largest quantity of woodchips that have been given out in the same timeframe since 2019.

Typically, the City hosts City-Load events on the first Saturday of the month from April to October. The events allow customers to have compost and/or woodchips (when available) loaded into their trucks or trailers by City staff using loading equipment for $10 per scoop. There is a limit of three scoops per visit.

All transactions at the Compost Facility are cash only. Compost purchased from the City’s Compost Facility is not intended for commercial applications.

The City will communicate any further changes to the City-load events as necessary. For more information about the Compost Facility, including self-load and City-load guidelines, visit our website: lawrenceks.org/swm/compost-facility.
