City of Lawrence begins brand development with community engagement

July 11, 2022

The City of Lawrence is beginning their brand development process this July with a series of community engagement opportunities.

The objective of the brand development is to cultivate a consistent and professional identity and message that accurately represents our vibrant and unique community. Through this effort, the City intends to improve on our communication and engagement with residents, strengthen community collaboration and pride, and position ourselves to compete for new economic development opportunities.

After a competitive RFP process, the City selected Guide Studio to serve as the consultants on the project. As place-brand consultants, they will use their experience and understanding of brand, paired with community insights and stories to help the City create a community identity that is instantly recognizable for the things people love and appreciate about Lawrence.

Community engagement is imperative to the success of the brand development effort, and there are a number of ways that the City is inviting and encouraging participation through this process, including online surveys, a steering committee workshop, a stakeholder workshop and a two public discovery sessions that all Lawrence residents are welcome to attend. The two discovery sessions will be held at the end of July:

  • In-person discovery session: This session will be from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, at the Carnegie Building, 200 W 9th St. You can sign-up in advance at Eventbrite: Lawrence Brand Discovery Session.
  • Virtual discovery session: This session will be from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, and it will be virtual. This meeting will mimic the first public meeting, but in an online forum for anyone who would prefer to attend virtually. Attendees must sign-up via Zoom in advance: Lawrence Brand Discovery Session – Virtual

Our community is also invited to participate in the brand development process via the online brand perceptions survey. This 10-minute survey will help us understand what our community believes to be Lawrence’s best and most distinct characteristics.

More information about the brand development process, including the survey and upcoming public meetings, is available on the project website.
