Kevin PowellArts & Culture, City, Parks & Recreation, Police

Join the City of Lawrence, Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission and artist Joe O’Connell of Creative Machines as we celebrate the new artwork, Through Other Eyes, located between the Lawrence Kansas Police Department headquarters, 5100 Overland Drive, and the adjacent park trailhead.

The reception will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 in front of the artwork. Brief remarks by the artist, a member of the Cultural Arts Commission and others will begin around 6 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.

The artist, Joe O’Connell, will be giving away approximately 50 colorful small glass spheres – as featured in the artwork – so attendees can bring a piece of the artwork home with them.

In accordance with Resolution 7070, this public artwork was commissioned through a competitive process as part of the City’s public art program by the City of Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission (LCAC). The project’s 2018 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget of $325,000 represented approximately 1.76% of the $18.5 million total project budget for the new police facility.
