City of Lawrence issuing survey for Women and BIPOC business owners

Kevin PowellCity, City Manager

The City of Lawrence is taking additional measures to ensure the voices of women and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) owned businesses are heard as part of the City’s business survey process. In August 2022, the City initiated a survey of the broader Lawrence business community; however, because women and BIPOC business owners represent a disproportionately low number of business owners in the community, the City economic development team decided additional surveying would be needed to hear from this group. As of today, December 12, the women and BIPOC business owners survey is available through a secure link on the City website.

The responses from these surveys will help the City determine what business owners feel are the most important resources or support in starting a business, the overall awareness of these resources (or possible lack thereof), and average financing needs and methods. As this is the City’s first survey of the women and BIPOC business communities, any input will assist in aligning the City’s strategic and long-term planning with the economic vision of business leaders.

The City encourages all women and BIPOC business owners to complete the survey. The time you invest will influence decisions about Lawrence’s economic development strategy, as well as projects, programs, and services that may impact your business. Please take the time to answer every question. Your feedback is appreciated.

At this time, the survey is limited to those provided a secure link to participate online. Please contact Sam Camp, Economic Development Analyst, at (785) 832-3484 or scamp@lawrenceks.org, for further details or if you have any questions about this survey.
