Vision Zero Transportation Safety Action Plan public meeting set for May 29

May 23, 2024

The Lawerence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and its partners are hosting a public meeting regarding the development of a Vision Zero Transportation Safety Plan on May 29th, 2024 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Carnegie Building, located at 200 W 9th Street. Attendees will have the chance to review crash data and learn about the planning process. Individuals will be able to share their thoughts about multimodal transportation safety. Community feedback will be crucial in shaping the development of the Transportation Safety Plan.

For those who cannot attend the public meeting there will be a survey available online at www.lawrenceks.org/vision-zero.

The Lawerence-Douglas County MPO and its partner communities; the City of Lawence, the City of Eudora, and Baldwin City received federal funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads For All (SS4A) Program to complete a Vision Zero Safety Action Plan. Vision Zero is a commitment to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries, making our streets safer for everyone, whether they’re walking, biking, rolling, or driving. Through strategic planning, community engagement, and targeted interventions, we aim to create a transportation system that prioritizes human life above all else.

By addressing factors such as street design, speed management, enforcement, education, and policy development, Vision Zero seeks to prevent crashes before they occur, ultimately saving lives and enhancing the quality of life for all residents. Your input is essential as we work towards creating safer and more accessible streets that meet the diverse needs of our community.

We encourage all community members to participate as they can and help us create a safer and more inclusive transportation environment for everyone in Lawrence, Eudora, and Baldwin City For any questions please contact Stephen Mason at smason@lawrenceks.org or 785-832-3148.
