Recommendations/Options/Action Requested:

Approve the purchase of one (1) Scorpion Automated Side Load Refuse truck from Chastang’s Bayou City Auto Car, in the amount of $242,019.05.  This purchase is part of the 2017 CIP replacement schedule (PW17F5).

Executive Summary:

Solid Waste identified the replacement of a dual cart tip truck for an Automated Side Load Refuse truck in the 2017 budget and 2017 CIP (PW17F5CIP).  Automation is a goal of operations in the Solid Waste Division. The purchase of a Scorpion Automated Side Load Refuse truck will be the replacement for unit #421 a dual cart tipping truck. Unit #421 is no longer a front line unit due to the type of operation Solid Waste currently uses. This unit will now be traded for a front line Automated Side Load Truck. Central Maintenance obtained a price structure utilizing the HGAC (Houston-Galveston Area Council) cooperative purchasing contract. Solid Waste would like to utilize this cooperative structure to continue its move to automation.

Strategic Goal Area:

Infrastructure

Fiscal Impact (Amount/Source):

This unit was budgeted for $225,500 in the 2017 CIP (PW17F5). The recommended bid totals $242,019.05, a difference of $16,519.05. The price structure includes the trade-in value of unit #421. Solid Waste identified four truck replacements in the 2017 CIP.  Bids for three (3) of those units arrived under budget and savings from those units will fund the additional cost above the budget estimate for this unit.
