Hours of operation / Meeting Times: By appointment Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

Fees or Dues: None for the legal services. Filing fees and court costs are the client’s responsibility.

Eligibility requirements: Applicants need to have cases pending in Douglas County, Ks and meet financial and case selection guidelines.

Intake Procedure: Telephone for an interview.

Geographic Area Served: Douglas County.

Funding Sources: DCLAS receives funding support from the KU School of Law, Rice Foundation, Kansas Bar Foundation, the City of Lawrence and Douglas County.

Affiliated Org: University of Kansas School of Law.

Description: The Douglas County Legal Aid Society offers no-cost legal assistance in matters in Lawrence Municipal Court and Douglas County District Court. Cases handled include court-appointed juvenile and criminal defense, criminal record expungement, name changes, and related matters.

Legal Aid is staffed by KU Law students who are supervised by professors in the School of Law.
