Human Relations Commission

Established by Chapter X of City Code and Ordinance No. 6522.

PURPOSE: This Commission consists of nine members from diverse racial, ethnic, commercial, industrial, and various other segments of the community who work to eliminate discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing by accepting, investigating, ruling upon, and resolving complaints within the City limits of Lawrence. Some of the activities include the study of the problem of discrimination and any other matter which may have an adverse impact on community relations the promotion of good will and cooperation among diverse ethnic groups and other elements of the population of Lawrence;  to solicit, receive, and accept funding for programs and to advise and support the Director and City Commission.

MEETINGS: Quarterly (typically every third Thursday in February, May, August, and November at 5:30 p.m., at the Carnegie Building, East Gallery).  2019 meeting dates are: February 21, June 6, August 15 and November 14.

TERMS: Three year terms. Terms expire September 30 of corresponding year.
