Public Records

Microsoft is currently experiencing a nationwide service disruption which is intermittently affecting Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and other online services used by City staff. They are working to implement a solution but do not currently have an ETA when that will be complete.

The City of Lawrence is committed to protecting and preserving city records appropriately, and to making open records accessible to the public in a timely and efficient manner. Procedure’s and standards for the management of all City records are established by the City’s Records Management Policy No.135.

Public records possessed by the city shall be open for public inspection as provided by, and subject to the restrictions imposed by, the Kansas Open Records Act (K.S.A. 45-215 et seq.) and the City’s Open Records Policy No. 136.

Open Records Request

The City Clerk serves as the city’s Freedom of Information Officer. To request copies of or access to open records, please complete and sign a Records Request Form and submit it to:

cityclerk@lawrenceks.org
City Clerk’s Office
6 East 6th Street
Lawrence, KS 66044

The City Clerk’s Office may direct you to submit the request to another city department if the City Clerk is not the custodian of the records requested. If you have questions regarding records requests, please call the City Clerk’s Office at (785) 832-3200.

Fees

The Kansas Open Records Act allows public agencies to charge fees for providing access to or copying public records. In some cases the requested records are readily available to the records custodian and no fees will be charged. If the fee to search for and/or copy the records is estimated to be more than $10, you will be notified before the search for the records is undertaken.
