Leslie Soden was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology from Kansas State University in 1993. She is proud to be a 5th generation Kansan, as her great-great-grandparents homesteaded just across the border from Missouri. When she moved to Lawrence in 1999, she felt an instant connection to this city. She loves Lawrence’s fiery history and progressive spirit, and how its citizens still reflect that unique spirit.
Leslie was elected to the City Commission in 2015. Leslie has been actively involved in her community for the past 10 years via the Joint Economic Development Council, the Lawrence Affordable Housing Coalition, and the East Lawrence Neighborhood Association. This unique background combines experience with neighborhood issues, small business ownership, and economic development policy, and is a very unique skill set. She is ready to put her experience to work for the people of Lawrence.
