Jayhawk Watershed

The City and JEO Consulting Group are beginning the planning and design efforts for the Jayhawk Watershed Stormwater Project, and are looking for community input. Learn more information about the Jayhawk Watershed Project and view the design plans

Background

Located west of downtown, the Jayhawk Watershed spans from the University of Kansas campus and drains into the Kansas River.

    • A watershed is an area of land that carries rain and snowmelt to various tributaries to eventual outflow points, such as bays, reservoirs, and the ocean.
    • Within the Jayhawk Watershed are residential and business properties, as well as entertainment and recreational amenities for the area.
    • Localized flooding occurs within the watershed frequently during intense rainfall events.

The Jayhawk Watershed project was originally identified in the 1996 Stormwater Master Plan. The 2023-2027 five year Capital Improvement Plan allocates $8 Million to the project.
