Prairie Park Nature Center environmental education programs are designed to fit with your classroom’s curriculum. All classes are correlated to Kansas curriculum standards.
Teachers can choose from guided tours, preschool programs, one hour programs or two hour field trip selections:
- Guided tours allow your group to investigate the nature center with the help of a naturalist who will discuss the exhibits, answer questions and lead a short hike if desired. The naturalist will introduce your group to 2 or 3 of our animal ambassadors. You may select a 1/2 hr. or 1 hour tour. Limit of 25 people.
- Preschool programs and tours designed just for preschool aged groups include live animals, stories, songs, outdoor exploration, crafts and lots of fun.
- One hour long indoor programs are presented at the nature center or at your school.
- Two hours field trips include an indoor presentation combined with outdoor hands on investigations. Selections can be adapted to different grade levels, but some classes do require grade appropriate skills.
- Homeschool groups are welcome to book these classes as well. You may want to check out our field trips for homeschooled students.

How to Schedule:
Please allow at least two weeks in advance for scheduling. To book a class call the nature center at 785-832-7980. Be prepared to tell us what your available dates and times are, how many students and parents, and what , if any, special accommodations are needed. Space at the nature center is limited, so we regret that we cannot accommodate group sizes of over 50 students in the classroom. Groups of over 50 students may have to be split in half to accommodate our available space.
Guided Tours $30 for 1/2 hour
$45 for 1 hour
Self-guided Tours free (must schedule in advance)
One Hour Program $90 on site for groups up to 50 people
$120 plus mileage off site for groups up to 50 people
$150 plus mileage off site for groups over 50 people
Two Hour Field Trips $5 per student
$6 per student for Earliest Prairie People
$2 per parent or guest
$100 minimum charge per class
*Teachers should instruct students to dress appropriately for the weather when scheduling a field trip with outdoor activities.
