  • YOGA, KITTEN
    Who wouldn’t love a fur-filled yoga class? This yoga class is a purrfect way to get involved! Join us for a one hour yoga class while a litter of adoptable kittens wander around and stretch with you! Proceeds benefit the Lawrence Humane Society! Participants will be able to get additional information about adoption, fostering and how to volunteer after the class. This is a B.Y.O.M. (bring your own mat) event.

  • TAKE A KID MOUNTAIN BIKING DAY
    Join the Parks and Recreation department and the Lawrence Mountain Bike Club for International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day: noon-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Lawrence River Trails in North Lawrence. Bike club members will lead group rides around the trail, giving tips on how to ride safely and have a good time. Members of the Lawrence Police Department Bicycle Patrol will make an appearance as well. Participants must provide their own bike and helmet.   • 46TH ANNUAL HALLOWEEN PAINT-IN
    Free and open to ages 3rd grade and older. Must be pre-registered to participate. Come join us in spreading Halloween spirit! LPRD, Downtown Lawrence, Inc. and the Lawrence Breakfast Optimists Club will hold the Halloween Paint-In on Saturday, Oct. 21. Students and adults must submit a sketch to Holcom Park Recreation Center, from which participants will paint on local Lawrence merchants’ windows. There will be an organizational meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.. All participants must attend the organizational meeting. Each participant will receive a Halloween Paint-In T-shirt. There will be additional Halloween activities celebrating our 45th Halloween Paint-In.   • ZOMBIE SCRAMBLE
    Ages: All ages. Only a choice few can survive the zombie epidemic that has swept through Lawrence. Massive hordes of zombies roam the forest waiting for their next fleshy meal. Come test your survival skills with LPRD’s first Zombie Scramble. Bring out your costumes as we want you to look good and have fun while doing it! Participants are invited to join us in the Survival Zone after the race for food and beverage specials and enjoy zombie themed attractions.

  • HALLOWEEN TRICK-OR-TREAT NIGHT
    LPRD recommends Trick or Treating on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Homeowners wishing to participate are asked to leave porch lights on for costumed youngsters. HAVE A SAFE HALLOWEEN!

  • KIDS DAY OFF
    Ages: 5-12.Min 10 / Max 50. Join LPRD for fun-filled days while school is out for in-service workdays. Your children will participate in arts and crafts, field trips and games. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch.

  • LPRD GOBBLE WOBBLE RUN
    Ages: All ages. Earn your Thanksgiving Day’s indulgences at the Gobble or Wobble Fun Run. More than just a holiday, Thanksgiving is about giving back. The Gobble or Wobble event is a fun way to do just that. We encourage our participants to bring a non-perishable food item to the event to support a local food pantry. We will combine the donated items with our month of giving event to help make everyone’s holiday special.

  • BREAKFAST WITH SANTA – CHRIS CAKES
    Ages: 3 to 12. Come have breakfast with your favorite jolly man. Santa will join us for a meal and holiday arts and crafts. We’ll enjoy pancakes, sausage, orange juice and water as we spread holiday cheer at the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., in Downtown Lawrence. Registration to eat, participate in arts and crafts and visit with Santa. You may registration for just arts and crafts and visit with Santa without taking advantage of the breakfast at the price of $5 per person.

  • CANDY CANE HUNT
    Ages: 6 and Under. Rumor has it that Santa is going to be at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St., hiding candy canes for children from 4-6 p.m. with the hunt starting at 4:30 p.m. After the hunt, we will warm up inside the center with some hot chocolate, cookies, and arts and crafts while listening to great holiday music.
