Background
The City of Lawrence, the Lawrence – Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization and partners Baldwin City and City of Eudora are receiving $160,000 in federal funding from the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) to complete a Vision Zero Safety Action Plan for Lawrence, Eudora and Baldwin City.
This award is part of the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Program, an initiative to fund regional, local, and tribal plans to prevent roadway deaths and injury.
A Vision Zero Safety Action Plan establishes a roadmap for how a community can eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries on its streets through equitable and inclusive community engagement. The plan gives details on goals, emphasis areas, and action items. Additionally, this plan will adopt evidence-based technologies to promote safety and equity for those traveling in the Lawrence, Eudora, and Baldwin City area.
A steering committee for the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan will guide the development of the plan.
