Microsoft is currently experiencing a nationwide service disruption which is intermittently affecting Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and other online services used by City staff. They are working to implement a solution but do not currently have an ETA when that will be complete.

The Lawrence Police Department prides itself on being a professional law enforcement agency. We hope you found your interaction with the Lawrence Police Department to be professional.  I have included information in our web site to assist you if you believe a department member provided exceptional service, made a mistake, or violated policy, or even to answer questions you may have about police service.

Complaints

If you need to submit a complaint about a specific incident, we want to hear from you. To provide a complete report, citizens are encouraged to make their complaints about police conduct as soon as possible after the encounter.

Complaints that involve ongoing criminal or traffic court proceedings will be investigated when the proceedings have concluded. The innocence or guilt of the defendant will have no influence on the complaint process.

Individuals needing or wanting assistance in filing a complaint may contact the City of Lawrence Equity and Inclusion Department at 785-832-3414. Complaints can be filled using any of the following methods:

Paper Forms:

Paper complaint forms will be maintained in a clearly visible location in the public area of the police facility located at 5100 Overland Drive.

Calling Dispatch

By calling the Douglas County Emergency Communications Center (Dispatch) non-emergency line (785) 832-7509 and ask to speak with an on-duty supervisor.  Once a supervisor is available the supervisor will attempt to make contact.

  • The CPRB contact information can be found on the CPRB page. Complaints submitted to the CPRB will be forwarded to the police department for investigation.

Appeals

If you are unsatisfied with the police department’s findings on your Level 1 or Level 2 complaint, you may appeal the findings to the CPRB using one of the following methods within 28 days of receipt of the department’s findings.

Accreditation

Accreditation Public Comment Portal

The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding an agency’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns. The overall intent of the accreditation process is to provide the participating agency with information to support continuous improvement, as well as foster the pursuit of professional excellence.
