Composting is the act of converting decaying organic matter (leaves, grass and woody debris) into a useable mixture suitable for improving soil structure and providing nutrients. The US EPA estimates that organic material constitutes approximately 26 percent of the municipal solid waste stream. All of this material can be composted instead of landfilled. This can be done on a large scale by the City, in your backyard, or by worms in your kitchen or office.
