The City of Lawrence is excited to announce the Maple Lane – Storm, Sanitary, and Watermain Improvements Project. This project will require reconstruction of the portion of Maple Lane north of 19th Street and the portion of 19th Street between Almira Avenue and Harper Street.
The planned construction includes improvements to the storm sewer system, sanitary system, and watermain along Maple Lane and 19th Street. The project also includes asphalt milling, patching, overlay, concrete pavement, curbs rehabilitation, new sidewalk, ADA accessibility improvements, and a new bus stop along the project corridor. These improvements will be implemented through engagement with stakeholders and engineering analyses emphasizing resident well-being and safety.

Project Information
How may this impact my neighborhood and driveway?
- A project of this size will have a significant impact on the neighborhood during construction. During certain periods of construction, it may be difficult to access your driveway. Though project phases are set to last several months at a time, access to your driveway will not be restricted for the entire construction phase. Access restrictions to driveways will happen in shorter periods, typically lasting a week to several weeks at a time. During these shorter periods of restricted access, residents will need to park their vehicles on an adjacent street.
- For example, a resident will not be able to access to their driveway for a few weeks while a waterline is being installed. After the waterline is installed in front of the driveway, the contractor will then temporarily adjust the traffic control to allow residents to utilize their driveway again. However, later on in that phase, the resident may have restricted access to their driveway again to complete the final pavement restoration.

Anticipated Traffic Impacts
Over the course of the project, there will be temporary traffic restrictions at various locations along Maple Ln. and 19th St between Almira Ave. and Harper St. Construction activities and traffic control will be sequenced to minimize disruption and will not all be performed at one time.
When this project begins in Late 2024 (pending weather or other delays), contractors will enact the following closures (a diagram can be found on the other side of this sheet):
· Road closure on Maple Ln. from the Edgewood Park entrance to E. Glenn Dr.
You will begin to see detour signage in the area to assit drivers with navigating the construction area. The City’s defined detour route intends to take all Maple Ln. drivers on neighborhood side roads Brooks St. and Miller Dr. where they can more easily travel to 19th St
