RE: |
2014 Better Block Street Event – 4/25/2014
|
Please place this item on the April 22, 2014 City Commission meeting agenda.
Matt Kleinmann has applied for a temporary use of public right-of-way permit to place two temporary bike lanes, a temporary pedestrian divider, and Temporary crosswalks on 9th Street from east of Connecticut Street to west of New Jersey Street for The Better Block Street Event on Friday April 25, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. benefitting Better Blocks and the Lawrence Arts Center (see attached map).
9th Street will remain open to traffic in both directions (east/west) for the duration of this event and traffic will be maintained utilizing an approved traffic control plan. Their basic concept is to place temporary pavement markings that will be removed upon the completion of the event to simulate a “complete Streets” concept in these two blocks. This is a project that Matt Kleinmann and a class he is teaching at KU have been designing. As part of the event they will have other areas utilized that are not within the city right of way.
The event organizers have gotten written permission from all adjacent property owners along 9th Street. They have also received a letter of support from the Lawrence Arts Center.
Police, Public Works, Fire / Medical, Lawrence Transit, DLI and the Chamber all have reviewed this permit with no issues.
