HISTORY
The park in which the Holcom Sports Complex sits was named in remembrance of Louis Holcom, longtime community baseball coach and friend of youth.
The northwest field at the complex is named after Ralph Houk, a Lawrence Native and former Major League Baseball Manager.
The northeast field at the complex is named after Louis Heinrich. Heinrich was born in Lawrence and is a local baseball legend.
The southeast field or the baseball diamond at the complex is Ice Field. It is named for Al and Tony Ice.
The southwest field is currently named Holcom Blue, for the blue bleachers that spectators sit in to watch the games.
Al, Tony, and Louis have been credited as the three main reasons the Legion baseball program has maintained its excellence throughout history.
DESCRIPTION OF PARK
Dedicated in 1974, the sports complex, which can be reached from 25th or 27th and Iowa Streets, includes four lighted baseball diamonds, two tee ball fields, restrooms, concession area, two soccer/football field and a 300 car parking lot.
