Al Ice was born in 1929. In the mid 1940s, Al played for the American Legion Baseball team. He was known for his sixth sense about pitching and his fondness for the fundamentals of the game.
For nearly a quarter of a century, Al worked in almost every aspect of Legion Baseball, including umpiring and coaching. He also officiated area high school football and basketball games. When Al wasn’t coaching or officiating, he was working as a mailman.
He was in charge for the entire program of Dorsey-Liberty Post #14 and was also the district commissioner for most of Eastern Kansas.
Al died Sunday, Oct. 28, 1979.
