Recreation Programmer for Gymnastics Position

Starting Salary:  $16.38 – $23.42 Per Hour
(Starting Salary Typically At Entry-Level of Pay Range)

RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position is under general supervision of the Recreation Instruction Supervisor at Sports Pavilion Lawrence. The Recreation Programmer will perform a variety of duties to prepare, organize and develop an outstanding, full-service recreational gymnastics program.  Key job duties of this position include self-motivated leadership in the gym, overseeing the operations of two gymnastics facilities, supervising and training part-time staff, and developing quality recreational gymnastics programs.  Critical to the success of this position is the ability to provide exceptional leadership, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.  In addition, the Recreation Programmer will organize and implement engagement initiatives for children, families and volunteers through gymnastics programming, and perform job duties with exceptional attention to detail. The ideal candidate must also work independently and be able to work irregular hours including nights and weekends when classes are scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Equivalent to three years education towards a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in the area of Parks and Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education or a related field.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Five years coaching and teaching experience in gymnastics preferred.  Requires the ability to work independently with little supervision and directly with the public in a positive and helpful manner.  This position also requires basic typing skills, and operational knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Access and Outlook).  Additionally, the successful candidate will be knowledgeable about USAG gymnastics skills and safety procedures.  Possession of or the ability to obtain AED/CPR/First Aid Certification.  Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license and capable of operating a City vehicle. The successful candidate must pass the background check, post-offer City physical and drug screen.
