Holiday Happenings to keep kids active during winter break

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department is offering Holiday Happenings for children ages five years-old to 12 years-old.

Holiday Happenings will be held 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday, Dec. 27-28, and Wednesday-Friday, Jan. 2-4, at Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St. Registration deadline is 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, or until the camp is full. The fee for the program is $40 per child for the first session and $60 per child for the second session.

The program features a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, games, sports and field trips to keep children busy while they are on holiday break from school. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch.

Registration is available online at or at any Parks and Recreation facility, including: Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane; the Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive; Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. or the Administrative Offices in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St..
