Utility Operator Position

Pay Range:  $18.35 to $26.23 Per Hour DOQ
(Starting Salary at Entry-Level of Pay Range)

Responsibilities:    Depending upon the area assigned, this position performs skilled, semi-skilled, technical and/or manual labor work involving equipment/electrical maintenance; process operations of water/wastewater treatment facilities and other utility facilities; and/or installation and repair of  water/wastewater lines. Utility Operator activities may include use of computer technology; sampling and laboratory analysis; operation of heavy equipment and vehicles, plant equipment; and maintenance and repair of equipment, buildings, and grounds.  This position may require rotating shift work and emergency response, depending on assignment.

Qualifications:      High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Training in water/wastewater treatment operations (or equivalent knowledge of biology, chemistry or related field), mechanical systems, building trades, or equipment maintenance preferred. Although no experience is required, preferred candidate will have one to two years of responsible experience in one of the relevant training areas above as well as a basic knowledge of mathematic principles and computer-controlled systems. Must possess valid Kansas driver’s license; may require Commercial Driver’s License depending on assigned workgroup. The successful candidate must pass the City background check post-offer City physical and drug screen.
