Drinking water precautions no longer needed for twenty-four impacted residences

June 16, 2019

A water transmission main failure at the 1200 block of New York Street on Wednesday, June 12 caused multiple street closures and affected water service to twenty-four residences. Water has been restored to those twenty-four homes located along 19th Street from Learnard Avenue to Haskell Avenue. On The day of the pipe failure, staff went door-to-door to communicate with those impacted and delivered a Drinking Water Warning door hanger. An updated door hanger notice (below) from the City of Lawrence was distributed Sunday to those impacted residences, stating that the drinking water advisory precautions are no longer needed.

Road closures will continue on Learnard north of 19th Street to Johnson Avenue as well as in the 1200 and 1300 blocks of New York Street. Traffic control devices are in place to direct traffic around the street closures. Staff are continuing to work to repair the street and will share updates as new information arises.
