Fall youth sports – volleyball, basketball and soccer – are now open for enrollment. Deadlines for each sport are as follows: Youth Volleyball registration ends Wednesday, Aug. 19; Youth Basketball registration ends Thursday, Sept. 3 and Youth Indoor Soccer and Boys and Girls Intramural Soccerregistration closes Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Youth Volleyball Leagues will be divided into coed a fourth grade/fifth grade league and a coed sixth grade through eighth grade league. Participants will have the opportunity to play indoor volleyball in a league that is recreational, teaching skills and is less competitive. The emphasis will not only focus on teaching the fundamentals, but also to teach fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship. Registration is open to boys and girls in fourth grade through eighth grade. Practices begin the week of August 31. Cost is $50 per participant. Games will be played on Sundays, Sept. 13-Oct. 18, at Sports Pavilion Lawrence. The recreational youth basketball program is open to both boys and girls, kindergarten through eighth grade. Current grade level and the school each child attends is how teams and leagues are formed. Leagues are organized and played in competitive, yet recreational settings during the school year. One-hour practices will begin the week of Monday, Oct. 12. Games will be held Saturdays, Oct. 24-Dec 5, for those in kindergarten through fourth grade, and Sundays, Oct. 25-Dec. 6, for those in fifth grade through eighth grade. League cost is $45 for children in kindergarten through fourth grade and $55 for children in fifth grade through eighth grades. Youth Indoor Soccer has leagues for boys and girls, kindergarten through eighth grade. Teams are formed based on current grade level and the school each child attends; however, teams may not be made up of children exclusively from the same school. Practices begin the week of October 26 with games being played Saturdays, Nov. 7-Dec. 19, at Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane. Cost to participate is $65 (Kindergarten through fourth grade) and $75 (fifth grade through eighth grade) per child.
