Access cards being issued at LPRD recreation centers, nature center

July 7, 2021

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department has begun issuing access cards for use of recreation facilities and the nature center. The program will be fully implemented beginning Monday, Aug. 2.

Access cards are free to Douglas County residents and can be obtained at any recreation facility during operating hours. Douglas County residents will need to provide proof of residency to receive the access card.  Access cards will be provided to those 10 years-old and older. Anyone under 10 years-old will need to be accompanied by someone who has an active access card to enter a facility.  Those who are enrolled in department programming or have facility room rentals will not need an access card for entry. Those using cardio and weight areas or open gym activities will need to scan in for access.

Access cards are currently being used at Sports Pavilion Lawrence and those who already obtained one will be able to use it at any LPRD facility.

Those not having an account with Parks and Recreation will need to establish one to be issued an access card. Individuals will swipe their card upon entering a facility to gain access.  The program is being instituted as a measure of safety and security. Highlighted during the pandemic is the need to have the ability to contact trace should an outbreak occur.

Those living outside of Douglas County can purchase an access card with a year’s access for $65 or pay a daily admission fee of $5 per day. Because the aquatic centers have a daily admission fee access cards will not be needed for entry.
