City of Lawrence requiring face coverings in City buildings

August 6, 2021

In alignment with Douglas County Unified Command partners, the City of Lawrence will be requiring face coverings in all City buildings, regardless of vaccination status, beginning Monday, August 9. The requirement of face coverings applies to City employees and members of the public who visit City buildings.

Throughout the pandemic, the City has been working with Unified Command partners and following the latest health and safety guidance from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control. Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advised that all individuals – regardless of vaccination status – wear masks in indoor spaces in regions of the country experiencing substantial COVID-19 transmission.

The City is instituting the face coverings requirement for City buildings in an effort to help control the current spread of COVID-19 in our community. Public cooperation is appreciated as we take this important safety measure.

This is a continuously evolving situation. The City will work with Unified Command and use the most up-to-date information to adapt as necessary moving forward.
