City manager Craig Owens announced today that Megan Dodge has been selected as the new Director of Human Resources for the City of Lawrence. Dodge is expected to begin her work in the City on January 31.
“Megan is an energetic leader with a passion for local government and a vision for building a culture where people throughout our organization feel trusted, supported, and cared for as we build community,” said Owens. “She is skilled in streamlining and improving the employee experience, which will make her an excellent champion for our commitment to Engaged and Empowered Teams.”
Dodge has more than 13 years of experience in public service, beginning in the City of Lawrence, where she served as an office assistant in Risk Management. Most recently, she served as the Operations Deputy Secretary for the State of Kansas Department for Children and Families. In this role, Dodge served as the executive leader over operations/administrative functions in an agency with 2,500 employees.

Dodge’s management portfolio includes human resources/training; diversity, equity and inclusion programs; communications/public affairs; information technology; facilities management; audit services; emergency management/security; and fiscal, contracts and purchasing functions. Prior to her most recent position, she served the City of San Antonio, Texas as the Assistant Director for the Government and Public Affairs Department. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Public Administration as well as a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Kansas.
