Create your own alternative to rain gutters with LRPD’s DIY Rain Chains

February 3, 2022

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Prairie Park Nature Center is hosting a workshop on creating rain chains, a decorative yet functional alternative to rain gutters.

In DIY Rain Chains, participants will make an eight-foot chain using small terra cotta pots and beads. These chains act as downspout, diverting rainwater to a basin or other water feature. Participants will have the opportunity to paint their rain chains any color or design.

This class is available for anyone 18 years-old and older. It is held 1:30-3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. Cost is $20 per person. All materials are provided.

Registration can be done online at http://lprd.org/activity?n=123221 or at the following Parks and Recreation facilities: Sports Pavilion Lawrence®, 100 Rock Chalk Lane; the Community Building, 115 West 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th St.; Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 West 27th St.; Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive or Prairie Park Nature Center.

Face coverings are encouraged and appreciated for visitors to City facilities. Masks must be worn at all times while visiting any LPRD facilities unless actively participating in a class, during which participants 11 years-old and older may remove their face coverings.
