Storm sewer construction on Naismith Drive and 20th Street causing reduced lanes

City crews recently started storm sewer replacement excavation work in the median on Naismith Drive near 20th Street. It was anticipated that this work would impact traffic next week. However, due to a slope failure that exposed a gas line, the impacts will begin immediately. Starting today, the inside, southbound lane of Naismith Drive from 19th to 21st Streets will be closed for approximately six to eight weeks.

In addition, starting next Monday, May 16, northbound Naismith Drive will also be closed between 21st Street and 19th Terrace for approximately six to eight weeks.

Signage and detours will be in place to direct traffic. Expect delays in the area and use alternate routes if possible.

All project timelines are subject to change due to weather and other project-related delays. For more information on construction projects and traffic alterations in Lawrence, visit lawrenceks.org/construction.
