Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Prairie Park Nature Center is hosting a workshop as part of their Nature’s Arts and Crafts series on the Japanese art of Gyotaku, or fish printing.

Gyotaku– Japanese Fish Printing is an ancient art form traditionally used on real fish for anglers to record their catches. In this workshop, latex fish models will be provided for harmless printing. Prairie Park Nature Center will provide the fish models, paper and paint for participants to create their own unique work of art.

Gyotaku– Japanese Fish Printing is available for participants seven years-old to 15 years-old. Children younger than 13 years-old must be accompanied by a registered adult. The workshop will be held 2-3 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. Cost is $10 per person.
