Chief Information Officer leaving City of Lawrence

September 20, 2022

Michael Aldridge, who has served as the City of Lawrence Chief Information Officer (CIO) since May 2021, is leaving his role with the City to become the Senior Director Analyst, Business Continuity Management and Cyber Risk Management with Gartner.

Aldridge joined the City’s Information Technology department in 2019 as Security Architect. He was appointed Interim Director in December 2020, and was named CIO in May 2021 following a national search. Prior to joining the department, Aldridge worked for both private companies and Johnson County, KS.

“It has been a pleasure to work for the City of Lawrence, the staff and residents,” said Aldridge. “While I’ll miss everyone, I’m confident my experiences here will help inform my work in the future.”

Aldridge’s last day with the City will be October 4.

“I want to thank Michael for his excellent service,” said Assistant City Manager Brandon McGuire. “During his tenure, Michael and his team established Enterprise IT Governance, established the project management office, implemented many IT operational best practices, conducted a cyber-risk assessment and improved the technology budget and purchasing process. We’ll miss Michael and we wish he and his family the very best in this next chapter of his outstanding career.”

Brian Thomas, Assistant Director of Information Technology, will serve as Interim Director beginning September 25.
