Summerfest highlights local music, celebrates community

June 28, 2023

On Monday, July 3, the City of Lawrence is hosting Summerfest 2023, celebrating our country’s independence and Lawrence’s unmistakable identity! Live music will begin at 4 p.m., with acts every hour through 8 p.m. A fireworks show put on by the Lawrence Jaycees at 9:45 p.m. will wrap up the night. The event is free and open to the public.

Summerfest will take place at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, 2120 Harper St. The event is sponsored by the City of Lawrence and presented by Next Era Energy, the Lied Center, T-Mobile, Pretzels, Inc., Confluence and eXplore Lawrence.

The musical lineup for Summerfest is below:

  • 4 p.m. VCMN
  • 5 p.m. The Matchsellers
  • 6 p.m. Page 7
  • 7 p.m. The Whips
  • 8 p.m. Maria the Mexican

There will be concessions onsite from Luv’s Shave Ice, Chick-fil-A, Free State Brewery, MHK Caravan, the Bap Stop and the Lemonade Stand.

In the case of inclement weather, the City of Lawrence will provide updates through the parks and recreation social media platforms and rainoutline.com, as well as the City website: lawrenceks.org/summerfest.

The map linked below shows where the music will be held (in the derby arena on the fairgrounds), as well as where fireworks will be staged beyond the fairgrounds. This year’s fireworks show was moved from the Shenk Recreational Sports Complex on the University of Kansas campus due to nearby construction, as the site no longer provides the necessary space to launch safely.
