Bypass halted at Kansas River Wastewater Treatment Plant

August 4, 2019

On Thursday, August 1, heavy rainfall caused equipment failure at the Kansas River Wastewater Treatment Plant which forced a bypass of wastewater into the Kansas River.

On Saturday, August 3, the Wastewater Treatment Plant was brought back into operation and the bypass was stopped at approximately 11:00 a.m.

City staff will continue sampling affected waterways. Stream advisories related to tangential bypasses will remain in effect at least through Monday, August 5, when City staff reevaluate conditions.

More updates will be made available as necessary.
