The City of Lawrence is committed to the health and safety of all travelers and residents. If you are involved in an accident with a City of Lawrence vehicle, please use the following information to help provide the City with the information needed to begin the proper insurance and legal processes.
For Residents and Non-City Employees

For City Drivers
- Call 911 or radio the Police Dispatcher. Do this even if you are in a private parking lot, on private property, or you strike a parked vehicle.
- Call your supervisor and inform them of the incident.
- Do NOT move the vehicle unless instructed to do so by the police.
- Keep conversation with the public to a minimum.
- Ask anyone involved in the accident if they are okay and check to see if they require medical attention. Do not offer first aid beyond your training.
- Tell them that the police and City representatives have been called to the scene.
- Do not give out any information regarding the accident to anyone except the Police Officer, your supervisor, or the Risk Manager.
For City Supervisors
Contact Risk Manager and give summary of accident and injuries.
Emergency Care: Employees with serious injuries who need emergency medical treatment must be transported by ambulance to the hospital.
Non-Emergency Care: Risk Management will arrange for treatment of employees with non-emergency care needs. This will include coordinating for someone to accompany the injured employee to the appointment.
