Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I reduce my summer electric bill?

A: Unplug appliances and electronics when not in use. DVD players, coffee makers, etc. use electricity even when not being used. Unplugging appliances and electronics can reduce home electric bills by as much as 6%. Replace incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). Normal bulbs burn most of their electricity producing heat. CFLs provide the same amount of light but use 1/3 less energy and last ten times longer. You’ll pay a few more dollars up front but will save about $30 over the life of each bulb.

Q: Why not pour cooking grease down the kitchen sink?

A: Do not pour cooking grease or oils down your kitchen sink. Grease can clog the city’s sewer pipes just like fatty foods can clog our body’s arteries. Place grease and oil into sealed containers and dispose in the trash.
