Weatherization Grants

Weatherization grants available to Lawrence Homeowners

The City of Lawrence has funds available for weatherizing homes throughout Lawrence. Eligible improvements include attic insulation, storm windows and entry door weather-stripping. In an effort to prepare Lawrence residents for cold weather, the Community Development Division of the Planning and Development Services Department will administer grant money provided through the Community Development Block Grant. The program has an emphasis on weatherization because when homeowners reduce the amount of outside air entering the home, energy efficiency is increased. To be eligible for assistance through the weatherization program, homeowners must meet the following requirements:

  • The home for which the application is being made cannot have received weatherization assistance from the city since January 1, 1993;
  • The home must be owner occupied with no more than two dwelling units;
  • Mobile homes are not eligible for this program;
  • Annual gross family income cannot exceed the following guidelines:
Family Size Maximum Income
1 $41,850
2 $47,800
3 $53,800
4 $59,750
5 $64,550
6 $69,350
7 $74,100
8+ $78,900

Grants for energy saving improvements do not require repayment of assistance. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. The deadline for application is 5:00 p.m., August 31, 2016. Grant applications are available in the Planning and Development Services Offices at 1 Riverfront Plaza, on Level 1, Suite 110 or download an application here. Call (785) 832-7700 for more information.
