Dad Perry Directions
HISTORY
The park, which was purchased in 1967 with Housing and Urban Development matching funds, is named in honor of the “Father of Gymnastics in the State of Kansas,” L.R. “Dad” Perry.

Perry was a teacher and coach in the Lawrence School District and a member of the City of Lawrence Recreation Board. At the time of the purchase, the west side of the park was not in the city limits. Initially, U.S.D. #497 held 10 acres at the northeast corner of the park for an elementary school, which has since been sold.
