HISTORY

The department worked with several neighborhood associations, including: East Lawrence Neighborhood Association, the Brook Creek Neighborhood Association, the Woods on 19th Homeowners Association and the Barker Neighborhood Association on the development of this trail/linear park in East Lawrence.

The trail and linear park was developed on existing City property and the abandoned rail corridor. The Lawrence City Commission approved the first phase of development in 2007. The initial public meeting was held in April 2007 gathering input from the public regarding the park and its features. Additional meetings were held since to further develop the trail/park master plan. Bartlett & West Engineering, Lawrence, assisted in the beginning stage of the plan, while City staff were responsible for the public discussion and final development plans created for the trail and park.
