Many of the public artworks around town are financed by the City’s Percent for Art program. According to City Resolution 7070, linked below, “The Lawrence, Kansas, City Commission may annually set aside through bond or other normal budgetary procedures an amount not to exceed 2% of the cost of all capital improvements constructed/acquired or contracted for construction/acquisition during the previous fiscal year for the acquisition, purchase, and installation of art in public places.”

As defined in the Resolution, the Cultural Arts Commission is responsible to develop a proposed plan and to oversee the implementation of a selection process for each budgeted project. The City Commission reviews public art projects for final approval.
