This position requires candidates to demonstrate specialized skills and abilities under emergency conditions. The selection process includes multiple evaluation stages to ensure the best candidates are chosen.
1. Application Prescreening
- Who Reviews: Human Resources and LDCFM Officers.
- What Happens: Applications and submitted documentation are carefully reviewed to ensure all requirements are met.
- Outcome: Candidates who pass the prescreening stage will be invited to take the general aptitude test.
2. General Aptitude Test
- Purpose: Evaluates essential knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
- Outcome: Top-performing candidates are selected to advance to the next stage.
3. Candidate Interview and Written Exercises
- Oral Interview: Assesses communication skills, decision-making, and situational responses.
- Written Exercise: Tests critical thinking and written communication abilities.
- Outcome: The Interview Board identifies successful candidates to proceed to the next stage.
4. Background and Reference Checks
- What Happens:
- Comprehensive background checks.
- Verification of professional references.
- Outcome: Candidates with satisfactory results move forward in the process.
5. Chief’s Interview
- Conducted By: The Fire Chief.
- What Happens:
- Selected candidates are invited to meet with the Chief.
- The number of candidates interviewed is determined by the Fire Chief.
- Outcome: The Chief identifies candidates for contingent offers of employment.
6. Post-Offer Physical Evaluation
- Purpose: Ensures candidates meet physical and health standards according to NFPA 1582.
- Includes:
- Comprehensive physical evaluation.
- Drug screening.
- By Appointment: Evaluations are scheduled individually.
7. Final Offer or Eligibility List
- Final Offer: Candidates who pass all evaluations will receive an offer letter.
- Eligibility List:
- Remaining successful candidates are placed on a one-year eligibility list.
- Eligible for future employment opportunities during that time.
